Sr. Kathleen O’Keeffe is a Sister of Mercy.  She hails from Duhallow. Sr. Kathleen was born into a large family of nine in Scarteen, Newmarket, Co. Cork.

She spent most of her working life as a teacher or principal in secondary schools in Ireland and Kenya. She continues to work for Kenya by fundraising for Elaine Bannon’s mission among the Maasai people in Rombo. She wrote a book about the wonderful volunteer worker Elaine Bannon.

In 2002 , Elaine Bannon took a holiday in Kenya. There, what she saw changed her life. Deciding to dedicate herself to volunteer work in eastern Africa. THE POWER OF ONE charts the inspirational journey and work of this Dublin woman.

This book also explores the “question” of Africa and global poverty, highlighting the inadequate responses of the west, and the need for a greater sense of urgency towards finding a redemptive solution to the plight of so many millions.

The story of Elaine Bannon reminds us that the work of just one person can make a world of change.
Royalties from THE POWER OF ONE will go to that work.

Sr. Kathleen now lives in Dublin.
